Classic Chocolate Cake

I recently made a birthday cake for a friend’s 30th birthday party. Her only request was that it be chocolate. I’ve been on the cupcake train (along with everyone else it seems) for the past few years but I wanted to make a good old fashioned layered cake for the special occasion. I’ve had this recipe bookmarked and have been waiting for good time to give it a try.The coffee in this recipe is what really makes it extra special. Also, using a good quality chocolate makes a big difference. (I used Callebaut.) I’ve tried using generic chocolate before with other recipes and the extra couple dollars splurge is worth it. The cake was deemed “the best chocolate cake ever” at the party. Thanks Barefoot Contessa! I kept the decoration simple and festive using multi-colored sprinkles just around the edge and some cutesy glittery pink number candles I found at target.DSC_5988
