Review: YSL Lipstick (Opera Rose No. 29, Orange Impertinent No.16, Coral Extreme No. 15)

I try my best to not judge a book by its cover but I’m definitely not innocent of this. Another major influencing factor for me is reputation. Well, YSL lipsticks are not only packaged beautifully, they have a lot of admirers in the beauty world as well.I decided to give these a try for myself and see if they were worth the hype.

The formula itself is worthy of the amazing gold packaging. I appreciate all the details that were paid attention to, the colored marking on the outside, the YSL engraving on the lipstick, the weight of the tube, and that click that confirms the lid is not going to budge. It makes reapplying lipstick a treat and an experience. The color applies smooth and opaque in one swipe. The formula is incredibly creamy similar to a butter, but feels super lightweight. I would compare the feel and consistency on the lips to a lip smackers. (I have been in love with the cotton candy one for over a decade!) You don’t usually find lipsticks that feel this way with this much color payoff. It is so pigmented and you really only need ONE swipe. You do need to be careful with precision though when applying it because it just glides right on and is so opaque. My only hang up would be that the lasting power isn’t that great. Because it is more of a lip butter consistency, it only lasts about 1-2 hours. I could see myself going through these lipsticks really quickly if I were to reapply during the day. For a high end lipstick, the price at $34 is normal but it will probably go twice as fast. Other than that, I think these are amazing and definitely worth it. I can’t wait to pick up more!

I picked up 3 of these and the colors are just GORGEOUS. See for yourself! Pictures are below.
